bill HENSON
I know more about the shutting down of his exhibitions than the man himself. Alarmingly contraversial and re-occurring on on the hitlist of primary school parent meetings. Bill captures androgynous kids strolling as if sleep-walking in the twighlight hour just after dusk. His style seems to creep up on young teen agers who are draped in loneliness and melancholy yet devoid of their clothing. Showing his first exhibition in 1978, and continuing his fascination with the time a child turns into an adult Henson has toured his photographs-sometimes worth up to $25 K overseas to BibliothËque Nationale in Paris, MusEe d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna and the Venice Biennale, un-phased by the negative media attention and hatred from some parents. Years ago I did manage to see a show of his, and say what you like about the subject matter his technique is exquisite.
