all the way with gen kay

I have a new obsession. Watching these Gen Kay short films. Over and over. Back and forth like a rusty old chain swing. With no definitive favorite. I have slowly become my dad. When we were young he would play records really loud on a Saturday afternoon. For the longest time I only knew one Beach Boys song- God Only Knows, Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac and Free Falling by Tom Petty, my brothers and I hated the neverending repeat. With a record player there was a lot of silence for a rewind. Now the time has come. Play. Play Play…. a quicker rewind and a new version of God Only Knows by The Four King Cousins. I could send my dad a link but it’s not the same.

Gen Kay is Melbourne’s best bragging point. Growing up in Victoria but packing her bags to follow the trail of her musician boyfriend to Tokyo and collecting folio photos from big names such as Vogue Nippon, Harper’s Bazaar Japan and Nylon Japan. Her work tickles both my night and day job sensibilities with the point of her Super 8. Articles popping around town say she is moving to London. Wish she would stay and create an interest in short fashion films.
